Mayor Murray Backs off Single Family Zoning

In light of the controversy surrounding Mayor Ed Murray’s goal to rezone areas of Seattle to allow for more multi-family zoning, Seattle residents and council members alike have spoken against this rezoning. Mayor Murray is now reversing his HALA (Housing Affordability and Livability Advisory) committee’s recommendation (one of 65 recommendations by HALA) that 6% of Seattle’s current single-family zones be upzoned. With median home prices continuing to rise, affordable housing remains a looming issue for Seattle-area residents.
